Gordon River cruise
The reason for the second night. Departs 9:00, back at 15:00. Hells Gates, the salmon pens, a guided walk on Sarah Island, then two hours up the Gordon to Heritage Landing and a rainforest boardwalk to a 2,000-year-old Huon pine. Lunch of Tasmanian produce is included. Runs daily and in all weather - dress for it.

Main walk, short. 40 min return through People's Park rainforest from the edge of town. The right size after six hours sitting on a boat.

80 min round trip that gives you the 99 Bends twice, which is no hardship, plus Iron Blow's cantilevered platform over the open-cut and Spion Kop for the moonscape. A dry run for tomorrow morning.

40 km of surf facing nothing until Argentina. Shearwaters pour back into their burrows at dusk from October - free, and one of the great wildlife sights in the state.

Evening. Australia's longest-running play, a convict escape farce, performed nightly in Strahan. Cheerfully terrible and locally beloved.
