Dolphin Sands Road itself is sealed, but many properties on the spit have long gravel or sand driveways. Worth one message before you arrive, given the car.

The spit is 243 mostly undeveloped blocks. Buy provisions in Swansea on the way through - 10 min away, and the shops shut early evening. Melshell Oyster Shack is on Dolphin Sands Road but closes mid-afternoon.

Night 8 · Wed 11 Nov Launceston

Central Launceston, so Stillwater, Black Cow and Geronimo are all walkable after the Sideling drive - a better last dinner than the Barnbougle clubhouse. Check whether parking is included; several St John Street buildings charge separately.

Notes 5

All eight nights are booked
Status

Stanley, Strahan x2, Strathgordon, Hobart x2, Dolphin Sands and Launceston. Nothing left to arrange except the Barnbougle tee time itself.

It bought you the plateau
Why Launceston

Staying in Launceston rather than Bridport frees about an hour on Thursday, which is now spent running the Lake Highway south to Bronte Park and back - roughly 90 km of the best sustained plateau driving, on a road with almost nobody on it.

Wednesday is the biggest day of the trip
Watch

06:30 away from Dolphin Sands, three passes, 18 holes on foot, then 85 km over the Sideling at dusk. Drive first and eat in Launceston - eating at the course puts you on the Sideling in the dark.

Self-catering at Dolphin Sands
Watch

No shops, no restaurants, and you arrive about 18:20 after the Wineglass circuit. Buy everything in Swansea mid-morning on the way up - and Melshell closes mid-afternoon.

Two early starts from booked beds
Watch

Friday's cruise check-in is 08:30 at the Strahan wharf, and Wednesday's tee time means leaving Dolphin Sands at 06:30. Plan breakfast for both.
